Since 1915, the Greater Saint Louis Community Foundation has been helping St. Louisans put charitable dollars to work addressing the issues most important to them in the communities they care most about. We are a community of donors committed to improving the quality of life across the metropolitan region. The Foundation is a public charity, 501(c)(3) nonprofit, with more than $84 million in charitable assets reflecting over 280 individual funds. Each Fund represents a unique charitable giving partnership with an individual, family or business. The Foundation derives its strength not from its assets but from its unique capability to match acts of caring with community need, enabling donors to make a real difference through charitable giving.
Community foundations are one of the fastest growing sectors of philanthropy in the United States. There are over 600 community foundations that hold in excess of $25 billion in assets and invest nearly $1.75 billion in grants to support a wide variety of nonprofits working in the areas of arts and culture, community development, education, environment, health, human services and religion.
Like all community foundations, we:
- Make charitable giving less of a burden to the donor and their advisors.
- Proactively work with donors and their advisors to maximize the tax benefits of giving.
- Assist donors in sharpening their charitable intent and charitable giving goals.
- Actively involve donors in making their own decisions about who benefits from their giving.
- Offer professional grantmaking support to help donors implement their charitable goals.
- Educate donors and their advisors about community issues, the latest charitable planning options and the implications of philanthropy on their family, business and personal legacy.
- Make direct investments in community issues through discretionary grants supported by the Foundation’s unrestricted assets.
